In der Blechfertigung kommt das Risiko selten von dem Lieferanten, den Sie gerade qualifiziert haben. Tracking OTD Trends, Not Just Averages

An annual on-time delivery (OTD) rate of 92% sounds acceptable until you look at the monthly trend and discover that the supplier consistently misses deadlines in Q4 due to capacity constraints from other customers. Track OTD monthly and look for patterns — seasonal dips, degradation over time, or correlation with specific part families or materials.

  • Lot traceability: Can the supplier link a finished part back to the specific material heat number?

Material traceability failures are rare — until they are not. When a field failure triggers a root cause investigation, the absence of MTRs can turn a manageable quality event into a liability nightmare.

  • Financial health: For strategic suppliers, a periodic check of financial indicators (payment history, credit reports, ownership changes) is prudent.
  • Geographic concentration: If multiple critical suppliers are in the same region, a single event (natural disaster, logistics disruption) can affect your entire supply chain.

Use a consistent 1–5 scale for each review point:

  • 5 — Excellent: Exceeds expectations, no issues identified, trending upward.

Share the review results with the supplier in a structured format. The conversation should be factual, not confrontational. Present the data, highlight areas of concern, and ask the supplier for their perspective.
